Designed as a vacation retreat for the clients and renters, this cottage near Broad Cove, Cape Breton Island, NS takes a cross-symetrical plan and leverages it to create a contemporary take on the split-pitched roof. Planned to have a poured concrete wall at the back of the site, the entrance to the building is purposely blank, and as one enters, the landscape and ocean expanse comes into view. Each of the four bedrooms has a private view of the horizon, with a communal interior “great-room” which opens onto a communal, covered porch-space.
